(Low Pressure Carburizing - LPC)
What is low pressure carburizing?
The materials transferred to the heating chamber in the vacuum environment are first heated to the process temperature. In order to enrich the carbon on the steel surface, carburization is carried out with the help of acetylene (C2H2) gas from the hydrocarbon group. Ammonia gas is also used for the carbonitriding process.

After the process, the steels are cooled with nitrogen or helium gas at high pressure up to 20 bar pressure in another chamber waiting cold. With this cooling process, martensitic transformation is completed. Since there is no cooling process in liquid environments such as oil or salt baths, tempering can be started directly without any washing or cleaning process.
After martensitic transformation, the process is completed by applying the tempering process after the cooling process in order to remove the brittle structure and obtain a tougher structure and remove the stress that occurs during the transformation.

Double chamber vacuum furnace is used for vacuum carburizing and carbonitriding processes in our company. In this type of furnaces, while the heating chamber is constantly hot, the cooling process is performed in the other chamber, thus shortening the process times, while the products are cooled much faster and maximum efficiency is obtained from the hardening process. All the hardware on the furnace is computer controlled and the carburizing process is performed using AVAC technology developed by the furnace manufacturer company IPSEN.
Benefits of the processes
High tensile strength
High wear resistance
High surface hardness
High toughness
High fatigue strength
Atmosphere Controlled Carburizing, Vacuum Carburizing Differences
Since there is no intergranular oxidation (IGO) formation, higher fatigue strength is provided compared to processes performed in an atmosphere controlled environment.
Since high pressure nitrogen or helium is used as the cooling medium, dimensional changes are at lower levels compared to other quenching processes.
Since it is done in an inert gas environment, the parts come out extremely clean after the process.
Homogeneous hardness depth is obtained in all parts of the piece (hole, etc.).
Since double chambers are used for heating and cooling processes, the process times are shorter and a faster cooling environment is provided as there is a cooling process in the cold chamber.
It is an environmentally friendly process.
